2015 Goals: February Update

2015 is cracking on at a hell of a pace.

Increase Net Worth – Target of 40% across the year
So to be on target I need to aim for an increase of approximately 2.8436156% a month –> ([1.4 ^ (1/12)] – 1) x 100.

Another good month 🙂   Net worth increased by 5.1% in the month and 9.2% since the start of the year.  Again it’s all down to a good savings rate and some equity tailwind.  (Where NW does not include my residential property).

NW is here.

Savings rate – Target average of 60%
February was an awesome pretty good month on the savings rate front.  I hit 71.4%!
I think that I could keep this rate up if there were no one off expenses, so next month a motorbike MOT and service will probably push the rate down.  Still, I’m well chuffed.
On a simple average that is 63.9%.  I’ll take that!

I’m a bit unsure if this is a bit of a red herring though, especially in the months to come.  There will be expenses put on a 0% credit card to pay for our wedding next year.  Savings will earn me some interest and then the card will be paid off at some point next yet…  so to I try to synthetically alter my rate now or just take a huge hit at some point in the future?

Cycling – Target 200 miles a month average
Not having much luck here.  Started the month off by putting my back out doing squats in the gym.  Then a weeks snowboarding.  Sadly I partially dislocated my knee on the last day (an old injury) and so had pretty much the rest of February off the bike.

20 miles for February and 80 for Jan put me at 100 miles, or a deficit of 300 miles in the year to date.  Sweet.

FAIL

Happy days financially.  Not so much physically.

Wow, awesome savings rate – congratulations and well done! I've not done half so well in Feb so have some catching up to do.

Well done too on the NW goal.

I've had to put some expenses on a 0% credit card. I have over 12 months to pay it off, so I have a plan in place to pay that off before the 0% runs out (or before then if I have a bit of extra cash to throw at it). It does mean that I don't have as much saved each month as I'm paying off debt but it's under control and it's part of a plan. Time for another one of your Book1.xlsx to work it all out! 🙂

Thanks! It was a good month 🙂

Yeah, I think it is ok to do, and in the efforts of simplicity I think I will carry on in the same way I am.

Yes! Another book1 is always good!

It's not nice, and sadly a recurring thing.

Luckily I didn't have too much weight on my knee and so it's healed up pretty quick. I've clocked up a nice 60 miles for March already and should be up to 100 after weekend, so it can't have been too bad 🙂 Less time in the gym and more on the road as it gets lighter, can't wait.
